Has the school ever said that you need to wait for a meeting or evaluation because of the holidays or the summer or just because the team is too busy? Do you ever wonder what your rights are when the school keeps “putting you off”?  Did your child’s doctor or you have concerns about your child meeting milestones, and you do not know what to do?  Do you think your child is too immature to start Kindergarten?  Did the IEP team say we do not agree that your child needs another year of Pre-K so he/she must start Kindergarten?

    Topics of discussion

    • Timelines that the school must follow during the special education process
    • How to start the special education process
    • Can you delay Kindergarten and what are the consequences?

    About the speaker

Frances Shefter has dedicated her whole life to working with children with special needs.  She started with an undergraduate degree in early childhood education from Towson University.  After a few years of teaching regular and special education, she obtained a master’s degree in special education from Florida International University.  After seven years in the classroom, she moved to an administrative teaching position as the Special Education Coordinator.  Two years later, she decided she was not making as much of a difference in children’s lives as she wanted.  She decided that law school was the answer.  Shortly after graduating from Stetson University College of Law with a Certificate of Concentration in Advocacy, Ms. Shefter opened her firm, Shefter Law, PA, in Rockville, MD, where they help families have a Stress-Free IEP™ experience.  The firm’s main area of practice is special education law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

We hear you! Having twins (or more!) is overwhelming and exhausting... especially in the first year. Whether you're expecting in the coming months, have infants at home, or struggling with the terrible 2's (or 3's) - all stages have their share of challenges.

Join us for our monthly meeting to gripe, rant, swap silly stories... anything else you would like to (or need to) share!  Get advice for survival (upon your request!)...but, really, come and meet other fellow parents of multiples and make new friends.

Seasoned members are welcome, too, with your tips on how you survived and a sympathizing ear.

    Sunday, June 12
    1:00 - 2:00 PM
(you are welcome to stay on longer - babies permitting!)
    Location: Zoom
Zoom information will be shared in your RSVP as well as in a reminder email sent 24-hours before. Please be ready to use video, as we know it makes for much better relationships!

We look forward to seeing you!
